Springtime Kids Craft: Clay Nest

We've done a few Spring crafts this week.
L really enjoyed making this nest and i'm so glad to have it as a keepsake.

Originally I planned to make homemade air dry clay, but I tried two different homemade recipes I found online, but was not happy with their results. One was too sticky and not easily moldable, and the other was too dry and falling apart. SO, I headed to Hobby Lobby and bought
Crayola's Model Magic Modeling Clay in Earthtone Brown

Then L and I went outside to gather our nest materials.
I already had some craft feathers that i'd bought at Hobby Lobby last Fall.

First I showed L how to make a nest shape.
I had to help him out a bit with his own but he understood the concept.
Then I let him get to work on decorating his nest.

I set it to dry in a bowl so it would keep it's shape. After it had almost completely dried I  carefully carved his initials and his age on the bottom of the nest.

  2. Hi~ stopping in from Friday's hop but i'm already a follower! I love your blog one of my favorites and we use your ideas all of the time, and have mentioned you a couple of times on my blog too. This nest is super cute and would go great with a bird sensory bin I just saw on another blog. Thanks so much for sharing your creativity.
