Volunteering at the Animal Shelter

I took L(4) and my stepson J(14) to volunteer at our local animal shelter. I had volunteered here by myself but had never taken the boys, so it was on our summer bucket list. At this particular shelter, mornings are dedicated to feeding the animals and cleaning the facility, in which only adult volunteers are allowed to help, but afternoon volunteers are welcome to play with the cats and dogs and children are encouraged to come with their parents. Obviously with their 10 year age difference, it's hard to find activities that they both enjoy, but playing with animals was a no brainer. They both loved it so much that they want to go back every week. Their pure joy was enough reassurance that this was something we were going to continue to do regularly.
