Marshmallow Stamping

This was an activity we did last year, but I had forgot to actually post about!
I set up this easy and fun project for L to do while I was cooking dinner. I freehanded a very simple snowman onto construction paper, gave L a few jumbo marshmallows and a plate of white paint with some simple directions and let him take it from there.

and then our snowman adorned our fridge until Spring :)

Paint in a Frame: Art Bath

This was such a fun bath activity where I simply duct taped thrift store wood frames to the walls of the tub and let him use washable paint to create his own framed masterpieces during bathtime! This could also be a great waterless tub activity as well!

We also used this as a learning opportunity.
As I called out a letter, my son would paint it within the frame.

 *NOTE*
When the bath was over we removed the frames.

Party Paint

I was so excited when I discovered the new Rich Art Party Bits Washable Paint at Hobby Lobby! It's so pretty and festive and I knew it would be a great New Years paint, although it's great for birthday's and other holidays, or just any ole time!
We've been making shaving cream paint since L was 2 and so I mixed the party bits paint with shaving cream for a really fun THICK paint that the kids can paint with in the tub.
Shaving cream paint could be used for lots of other art and craft activities as well!

*If you can't get ahold of The Party Bits Paint you could also use glitter or confetti*

Make Homemade Slime for Christmas Gifts

I used the basic recipe for our Santa Slime to make 3 different colors of slime.
Red, White, and Green

I put the slime into mason jars, created a few simple labels, tied some ribbon on and
gifted them to some of our friends whose kids like ooey gooey things like we do!

Playing with Playdough in Water

We always make homemade playdough, and our most recent batch was Pumpkin Pie Scented Playdough that I made for Thanksgiving. Homemade playdough can last for months and months, but now that we are in the Christmas Holiday, we were ready to move on to a new batch of holiday playdough and retire our Thanksgiving batch. So I thought we'd try a new kind of playdough activity.

Playdough in water!

Playdough in water is slimy, slippery, ooey gooey, squishy...
all those awesome adjectives that describe the type of play that my son LOVES!
It basically becomes a new sensory material for a whole new way to play with playdough.

For the setup, I laid a towel on the table first, then set a big bowl with water,
some mixing and smashing utensils, and our Pumpkin Pie Playdough.

The more playdough that was mixed and smashed into the water, the thicker the water became,
and then L started pretending he was cooking and making soup.

even I couldn't resist playing in it with him!

I should mention that putting your playdough in water will "ruin" your playdough. We did this activity because we were making a new batch and instead of throwing our old batch away, we had one last "hoorah" with it! It's a great way to play with old or about to be tossed playdough.

We'll definately be doing this again!
I can't wait to get a more colorful batch of playdough in the water!

***A word of advice***
Due to the salt content of the playdough, if your little ones have dry hands the salty playdough water may sting a bit. We did 2 days of play with this stuff, and the first day he complained about it, but continued to play. However the 2nd day I lotioned his hands really well before we played and that seemed
to do the trick.
