Face Feature Magnets

L loves playing with magnets and I've made tons of homemade magnets, so when I saw THESE, I knew he'd love them and they'd make a great homemade Christmas gift and fun addition to our magnet collection!

Since I can't draw AT ALL, I found lots of cool face features on google images, such as

these

I printed them out and then cut them out.

Then I stuck them onto sticky magnet sheets and cut them out again.

 Here's a picture of them on the magnet sheets before I cut them out.

I put them in a tiny tin which is mostly round,

so if we travel he can also take them and use the tin as a face!

Santa Slime

Today we made "SANTA SLIME" using

THIS RECIPE

Which I found through Growing a Jeweled Rose's  Slime Basket Post

To turn it into "Santa Slime" we added red food coloring, peppermint extract, and red glitter.

It's more fun than a bowl full of jelly!

Our Santa Slime's biggest appeal...

MAKING SANTA FARTS!

Put your slime in a bowl then punch down with your fist to make a hole. Then quickly flip it over and punch down again. If you do it just right, the air trapped in the bottom escapes to sound like a giant fart...which we of course called Santa Farts. This may be a bit distasteful for some, but in this house of all boys (inluding a teenager), this is entertainment at its best!

 aaaand in case you are wondering what Santa Farts sounds like....

 

Santa Slime is not a one time use play recipe! This "slime" can be kept in a ziplock baggie or other airtight container for quite some time to be brought out and played with over and over again!

Christmas Sensory Bin for Babies

Using mostly Christmas decorations I already had on hand, I put together a very simple sensory bin for B, my 15 month old. He was so delighted with simple bucket of Christmas goodies!

It included

*Small shatterproof bulbs

*bows of different sizes

*large jingle bells

*small "presents" which are just wrapped foam blocks

*tinsel (bought at the dollar store)

He loved this!

Though these objects were chosen because of their lesser chance of being choking hazards, you should always watch babies and younger children with vigilance when playing with sensory bins and material, and use discretion when choosing your own materials based on your child's age and developmental ability.

No-Sew Super Hero Cape

This was another homemade gift I made for L during our no-battery operated toys Christmas last year. My sewing machine and I don't have a great relationship so I searched for an easy no-sew tutorial and found THIS ONE. They were SO easy and cheap to make, that it was almost silly!

 L loves to play dress up and these super hero capes get played with ALL the time. I made a variety of colors so when his friends come over, there are enough capes for everyone to become a super hero!

He also uses them as painting smocks by just wearing them in the front...WIN!

Colored Glue Art

As soon as I saw the rainbow glue that Pink and Green Mama made, I knew we had to try this for ourselves! Basically you just pour some acrylic paint or drops of food coloring into either new or half used bottles of glue, stir, and PRESTO, you've got beautiful "glue paint" that stands on it's own for making wonderful works of art! You can also add glitter for a bit of sparkle.

My Children's Art Group did this for our latest art playdate which you can see HERE,

 and we've continued to play with the left overs for a week now!

L made tons of colored glue art and as you can see, I made a few pictures myself.

It's such simple and fun stuff to "paint" with!

After a few more days of playing with this stuff, we added some beads to our colored glue

This was L's colored glue and beads masterpiece

aaaaand of course, I couldn't resist making a rainbow!
