Jack-o-lantern Acorns

During the Fall I cannot help myself from picking up acorns. It seems that my pockets and the car cup holders are always filled with them. One lazy afternoon I decided to turn a few lucky acorns into jack-o-lanters with simply orange paint and a black fine tipped sharpie. L loved these little guys!

Waxed Leaves Autumn Garland

The fall colors have finally arrived in Arkansas!
I've been wanting to do waxed leaves for quite a long time now, and I finally got around to it today.
Its a wonderful way to preserve the beauty of Fall.

Really Easy.

Gather your leaves

Dip them in melted beeswax.
I use a double boiler to melt my wax. In the bottom where the water is, I added cloves, cinnamon sticks, and some nutmeg to fill the house with a wonderful Autumn aroma while I worked.
Shake the leaves a bit to get the excess wax off.
They dry very fast

So pretty!
You can decorate with them in lots of different ways!

I made an Autumn Leaf Garland with mine.
Simply use a needle and thread to sew through the stems of the leaves.
String them up and enjoy the warmth AND smell (the beeswax smells delicious)

Our (very photogenic) fake family....Just bought the frame today.
I really really love the way the leaves just warm up the whole area. So homey!

I also made this which I just love in our Seasonal Nook by the door.

Corn Husk Candle Holders

I found this cute idea at Uncommon Artistic Endeavors, and just had to make some of my own.
Her directions are very good, with pictures of each step, so for directions, CLICK HERE.

Glitterizing our Autumn Treasures

I was at my moms and found her GOLD SPARKLE GLITTER SPRAYPAINT, and just couldn't resist!

The sparkle is really subtle and pretty (not gaudy) and I love that! It's so beautiful in the sunlight!

Fall Foliage Pumpkin Centerpiece

This was a last minute Thanksgiving centerpiece that L made using a pumpkin and
fall foliage that we collected on a nature walk on Thanksgiving Day.

what you need
Pumpkin
Fall foliage
(we took a nature walk first to gather our supplies)
Something to make holes in the pumpkin
(I used a screw driver)

what you do
1. Use a tool to make holes of different sizes in the pumpkin

Let your child fill the holes with your fall nature treasures!

L enjoyed this so much! He had lots of fun finding things to fit the right sized holes. He would fill the holes and then take everything out and start over. It was awesome!
The process of filling the holes is so much fun for toddlers.
LET THEM explore with it!
To get L to keep the foliage into the holes to finish the centerpiece, I had to make up the game "Can you fill ALLLLL the holes of the pumpkin?!" and this did the trick!

This one was made for his Nonny. I love it so much that I think we'll do this again for our house!
