Magnetic Googly Eyes

I've always had a bit of an obsession with googly eyes!
Since I started making them magnetic by simply hot gluing magnets to the back of them our home has never quite been the same! Once in a while I break these out and hide them around the house for the kids to find.
It's always unexpected and it cracks them up!

Here are some i've put around the kitchen...

There's just something so addicting and hilarious about bringing inanimate objects to life!

You can also buy sticky back googly eyes and these are lots of fun too! Can be put almost anywhere!

Bubble Printing

Today we tried bubble printing, which i've been meaning to try for a while and was reminded of how much fun it looked when I saw THIS BLOG POST.

What you need
dish soap
 paint
water
straw
paper

What you do
mix dish soap, water and paint
let them blow bubbles
then lay the paper on the bubbles

Honestly we only had fun for about 5 minutes out of the whole activity because L accidentally sucked in A LOT of blue bubbles and threw up EVERYWHERE! After that whole fiasco it was naptime and VERY suprisingly after his nap, he asked to finish the bubble printing! I was pretty reluctant, but he really wanted to so we took it very slow and I pretty much sat 2 inches from him and supervised while he blew bubbles.

At first we used a paper towel to print but that didn't work.
so then we switched to a plain white piece of paper

it turned out really pretty!

Styrofoam Sculptures

I always have a few very quick and easy activites around for L when I just need a small block of time for dishes, laundry, cooking dinner, or just to rest my feet!

It started with a flower arrangement styrofoam block and some plastic toothpicks.

and after a trip to Target for some shelving, we aquired lots more styrofoam and the activity went from a 15 minute activity to an activity that he went back to off and on for days!

Once I showed him how to connect pieces together he was building towers and robots in no time!

He is super proud! This pic shows a big "whoa!" coming from him.

This was the start of his robot. It was amazing to watch his creativity.
He only asked me to help make the feet so his robot would stand up.

so the end result was this.

Our styrofoam is crumbled and broken to bits now, but it was such a fun activity while it lasted!

Pretend Play: Indoor Spiderweb and Bug Rescue

The idea to make an indoor spiderweb came from a book I found at this week's visit to the library.

The web idea was fun enough, but I love to add the element of imaginitive play to anything we can so we also made spiders and bugs to hang on our web. Then we played BUG RESCUERS and saved the bugs (and Tinkerbelle) from the big bad spiders!

web supplies

our big bad spiders!
I love L's spiders!

and our bugs to rescue!
Look at L's bug at the bottom. Do you see his sad face? Love it!

First, we hung our web
I let L direct me where to put the lines. I told him that spider webs were very delicate and could break very easily so we had to be careful not to touch it, which led to all sorts of acrobatics! (At the time I was 32 week and this was no easy task!)

and then we hung our spiders and did lots of crawling around
under the web so as not to wake them up, because if they did they would trap us in their web!
I left out the whole wrapping us up and sucking our blood part lol

Don't touch the web!

This part was so funny. He took it so seriously. He thought those spiders were real and did NOT want to wake them.
Ohhhh the fun of imaginative play!

after a while we hung our bugs in the web too

and Tinkerbelle

I literally had to give him a good pep talk to muster the bravery to go rescue Tinkerbelle and her bug friends. He became the bug rescuer and off he went! In this picture he is literally pointing and yelling at the spider telling him that he better stay where he is and leave his friends alone!

This was my favorite part
While he was rescuing his bugs, I shook the web for a little added dramatic effect and a spider fell (not my intention but such a funny outcome) which scared him and he scrambled back to me as fast as he could without touching the web and dodging the other spiders. Of course I died laughing! Then I reminded him that Tinkerbelle was still in the web and he couldn't leave her so he had to kill the spider! My brave little boy got his big robot and shot the spider to save the day! haha (for real, he took this so seriously)
