Most people have measuring cups and if you have the nesting kind, you can take them out for a very quick and simple sensory-motor game to play with your baby or toddler.
You'll need the
1 cup
1/2 cup
1/4 cup
(the 1/3 cup makes this activity more difficult so leave it out for babies and add it for older toddlers)
Suggestions for Play/Learning
First I sat with B (16 mo) and slowly demonstrated how to separate the cups and then how to put them back inside each other. Be sure to put the 1/2 cup inside the 1 cup and then the 1/4 cup inside the 1/2 cup, which is already isdie the 1 cup, as this is the easiest way. Then take the cups apart again. Let your child explore and try to do the same, but also slowly re-demonstrate once in a while.
This very simple activity helps develop and refine your child's motor skills and senses.
It also helps them feel a sense of accomplishment as they develop a new skill!
