I absolutely love fairy gardens. I totally believed in faries as a child and my mom fully supported that fantasy. As an adult, the fantasy is a bit different but the enchantment of the idea is still wonderful! I wanted to share that magic with others but I wanted to do something very unique and unsuspecting. So, I decided to create a fairy home in the woodline of a nearby park. I bought this set (door, window, and bridge) on Etsy HERE (the owner of the shop is on vacation and will return April 21st 2012). Our family is also big into Geocaching so after setting it up, I logged it's location (coordinates) onto Geocaching.com, so that Gecoachers are able to find it via GPS, but more importantly, I hope that some adventurous children who visit this park happen upon it! I know if I would have found this as a child (heck, even now!) I would be in absolute heaven!
I just wanted to bring a little bit of magic, or even just a smile into someones life :)

This park is located miles into the country, and is surrounded by the woods on one side and the lake on the other side. It's a gorgeous park, and so rural that it's briefly visited. We live very near to it and it is one of our favorites. It doesn't receive very many visitors so I knew it would be a perfect place for our fairy house. Though I can't be certain, I really don't think the fairy home will be disturbed or stolen. However, I did buy a second one just in case!
After I set it up, I called L over for his approval. He then said "Mommy, you are amazing!"
Which of course just melted my heart!
I wanted to make it simple enough so that harsher weather wouldn't completely destory the setup, but I added a few details as well. There's a small terra cotta bowl with "fairy treasure" such as some of those plastic gems used in floral arrangements, some sea shells, a few nut shells, seeds, and painted rocks. I also added a tiny tiled path and surrounded the "yard" with big rocks.
For Geocachers, there is a small playdough container hidden amongst the rocks with a logbook inside. So far, the whole thing has held up through a few bad storms!
I will definately be setting up more fairy houses around our town....it's going to be my new thing.
Maybe if your ever in the area, you might happen upon one!
If you ARE ever in the Northwest Arkansas area and want to seek out this particular fairy garden/ Geocache, here is the gecoache page, code, and coordinates! You must be logged in to see it's coordinates, and it's free to join the site! It's title is "An Enchanted Cache"
