Shaving Cream Marbled Paper

We finally did shaving cream marbled paper!
all I can say is WOW! It was so easy and fun and it produced beautiful results!

What you need
-shallow pan (cookie sheet works great)
-shaving cream (foam, not gel)
-liquid watercolors or food coloring
-paper (printer paper is fine but cardstock works better)

What you Do

Spread about a 1 inch thick amount of shaving cream onto your surface.
Drop paint or food coloring onto the shaving cream.
3 colors or less at one time is best.

Swirl the colors around however you'd like!
Using the handle end of a paintbrush worked great.

Take your paper and lay it on your paint design.
smooth it all over very gently to transfer the design

When you remove the paper, wait a minute or two and then gently scrape off the shaving cream from the paper. I used a wood craft stick to scrape it off and it worked great.

The design stays on the paper and is really beautiful! You can use the finished product as wrapping paper and if you use scented shaving cream, you'll have scented paper!

  1. I tried to do it a while ago but I didn't scrap the shaving cream. I let it dry instead. Now, I know why it didn't work!

I rarely am on Blogger, so I most likely will most future posts by you, but you have great ideas that I KNOW many ppl would follow it. Word of mouth spreads fast on FB (that's how I got here :D). Maybe something to consider? ;)

  8. I actually teach this as a color wheel project to my seventh grade art class. It is fun for all ages! Tips for older children include:

Use a scrap of cardbaord and glue in some toothpicks to make a rake. Makes designing so much more fun because of the detailed patterns you can do!

You honestly don't need an inch thick of shaving cream I tell my students 1/4 in is plenty and to reuse it.

Liquid Watercolor! Instead of food color use watercolor (must be in the liquid form). Work even better than food color. The paper absorbs the color really nicely. (Buy the stuff that is already in liquid form. It had to be highly concentrated. That is why the other person probably had a hard time with her watercolor. The little crayola palettes just don't work the same.)

I enjoy this project every time I teach it! It is just great.

  11. Is it just me or there really is a face of a dog in that finished product? Amazing! I guess that's another fun part in there, looking through a possible sketch of something out of nothing. That will be a great idea as well for furniture design australia. Cheers!

  12. Now that's what I call art! You did a great job in using available resources to create this design. If you want to start a business, this might actually be a good one. They can even be used to paint circle rugs.

  14. Thank you again for posting this! I had this bookmarked since last Easter! We never got around to it, until today! We loved it. It was so simple, and produced gorgeous results. We decided to use pink, baby blue and light green construction paper, and it worked wonderfully. They are so beautiful. Thank you for sharing your incredible ideas with us.
