Sensory Bin: Dino Land

Like so many other kids, my son LOVES dinosaurs! I was always fascinated with them too and one of my favorite movies is Land Before Time. We watched that movie a few days ago and he loved it. So, I decided to make a Dinosaurland Senosory Bin for him to have many adventures with Little Foot, Spike, Sarah,Petri, Ducky, and the Sharptooth!

I bought a big plastic storage bin and a big bag of aquarium gravel (rinse well before you let your child play or before you put it in an aquarium with your fish because it contains chemicals)

I made some "boulders" by painting some styrofoam balls brown.
I bought the rest of the Dino Land stuff from the Dollar Store.

I brought it outside to play with but this is such a great thing to have for indoors when the weather doesn't permit outside fun. Just lay a plastic table cloth down for easy cleanup and less waste!

  1. OK, we are totally making this too. And thanks for the tip about the chemicals, I would have never guessed! What do they put in there. Do you know why?

  2. Hmmm, i'm not sure why but the warning on the bag said to wash the rocks first to remove chemicals that could harm the fish so I went ahead and washed them not knowing whether or not it could be harmful to L or not. Better safe than sorry.

  3. I think my kids would love this, you have really great ideas!

You could also use beans instead of rocks!

  5. We live in lentil country, so we did this with unused lentils instead of rocks. You could also use sand (aquarium rocks get pricey!). I think I spent around $5.
